PULPOTOMY AND ROOT CANAL TREATMENT IN PRIMARY TEETH

Pulpotomy and root canal treatment in primary teeth are procedures used to preserve milk teeth that have been damaged by decay. Pulpotomy involves removing only the infected tissue (pulp) in the upper part of the tooth while preserving the healthy tissue at the root tip. This method helps maintain the function of the tooth and prevents early loss. In more advanced cases where the infection has reached the root tip, a root canal treatment is performed. In this procedure, all nerve tissue is removed, and the root canals are filled with special materials. Both treatments are essential for preserving the child’s natural tooth structure and supporting the healthy eruption of permanent teeth.

PRIMARY TOOTH FILLING

A primary tooth filling is a treatment used to repair milk teeth damaged by decay and to maintain their function. Since primary teeth serve as a guide for the proper development of permanent teeth, preventing their early loss is highly important. During the procedure, the decayed area is cleaned and restored with an appropriate filling material. This preserves chewing function, reduces the risk of pain and infection, and plays a key role in maintaining children’s oral health.

SPACE MAINTAINERS

Space maintainers are preventive appliances used to preserve the space left by prematurely lost primary teeth, allowing permanent teeth to erupt in the correct position. When a primary tooth is extracted too early, adjacent teeth may shift into the gap, leading to crowding or bite problems in the future. To prevent this, fixed or removable space maintainers are used. The treatment is planned individually based on the child’s oral structure and followed up with regular check-ups.

Fixed space maintainers are bonded to the teeth and cannot be removed by the child, typically preferred for single missing teeth. Removable maintainers can be taken in and out and are often used when multiple teeth are missing or in cases with aesthetic concerns. Both types play an important role in preserving oral health and supporting healthy dental development. Space maintainers offer a simple yet effective solution.

FLUORIDE APPLICATION

Fluoride applications are preventive dental treatments aimed at strengthening tooth enamel and preventing cavities. This method is especially used in children and involves applying fluoride gel, varnish, or foam to the surface of the teeth. Fluoride makes the enamel more resistant to acids and slows the formation of cavities. The application is quick, painless, and highly effective. Regular fluoride treatments support healthy dental development in children and significantly reduce the risk of cavities over time.

FISSURE SEALANT APPLICATION

Fissure sealants are protective dental treatments that seal the deep grooves and pits (fissures) on the chewing surfaces of teeth to prevent cavities in those areas. Commonly referred to as “tooth vaccines” by the public, they are especially effective on molars where food and bacteria tend to accumulate. Sealants block these areas with a special filling-like material, preventing bacteria from settling.

The procedure is painless, quick, and typically applied to children. When combined with regular dental check-ups, fissure sealants are highly effective in maintaining dental health.
