What Are Laminate Veneer Applications?
Laminate veneers are a type of aesthetic dental treatment applied as thin layers to the front surface of the teeth. This method is commonly used to correct minor cracks, discoloration, shape irregularities, or gaps between teeth. Laminates offer an aesthetic and long-lasting solution with minimal intervention to the natural tooth structure and can be made from composite or porcelain materials.
Porcelain Laminate:
Porcelain laminates are ultra-thin ceramic shells specially fabricated in a dental laboratory and bonded to the front surface of the teeth. They provide high-level aesthetics, closely resemble natural teeth, and are highly resistant to discoloration. A small amount of enamel is removed from the tooth surface prior to application. Due to their durability and longevity, porcelain laminates are often preferred by patients with high aesthetic expectations.
Composite Laminate (Bonding):
Composite laminate involves the direct application and shaping of composite resin material on the tooth surface. It is typically completed in a single session, more cost-effective, and often requires little to no alteration of the tooth. However, compared to porcelain, it is more prone to staining and wear over time.
